The CHOC Epilepsy Center
Excellence
in Patient Care
The Epilepsy Center at Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC)
is an innovative, comprehensive resource that offers true excellence
in patient care. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to
the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy - offering families throughout
Southern California the full range of services in one convenient setting.
The Center is the
first program of its kind in Orange County dedicated to helping
children whose seizures are unresponsive to therapy, as well as
those with routine seizure disorders.
At CHOC, we understand the challenges families face when a child
experiences seizures. Our goal is to provide a responsive Epilepsy
Program that offers individually tailored, advanced treatment alternatives
in a compassionate, accessible environment. We create strong relationships
with families, working together to ensure children are receiving
the most appropriate and optimal treatment for their condition.
The CHOC Epilepsy Center offers patients the most modern treatment
strategies currently available, including several new medications
and the latest therapeutic approaches such as vagus nerve stimulation.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Childhood epilepsy varies enormously in type, degree
and severity, and may be associated with other medical problems.
Most children with straightforward epilepsy experience a normal,
active childhood. However, sometimes the condition is more serious,
and children need long-term treatment and support.
Because of the complexity of diagnosing and treating
epilepsy, it is vital for children to be seen by a multidisciplinary
team of experts who can provide excellence in care. The CHOC Epilepsy
Center offers this care in one comprehensive program.
